Our commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Te Tiriti o Waitangi – Board Statement
The Salisbury School Board affirms its unwavering commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi as a pivotal, living, and guiding document. This commitment is embedded as an existing strategic goal and continues to shape our governance, practice, partnerships, and aspirations. Our mahi in this space—both historically and today—remains central to who we are and how we serve our community.
As a national residential school serving young women and their whānau from across Aotearoa, we recognise the uniqueness of our governance role and the responsibilities it entails. We acknowledge the core principles of partnership, protection, and participation as central to giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This commitment flows from our values and identity as a bicultural educational community.
The Board is committed to meaningful engagement with iwi, hapū, and Māori whānau. We affirm our ongoing journey to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in authentic, relational, and evolving ways, embedding these principles across governance, policies, curriculum, pedagogy, professional learning, culture, and relationships. We are dedicated to ensuring equitable outcomes, wellbeing, and mana for Māori learners and all members of the community we serve, and to continuously reflecting on and improving our practices.
The Board is proudly committed to fostering a school where Te Tiriti o Waitangi guides all aspects of our work, ensuring cultural integrity, belonging, and opportunity for all.
